Update emerges regarding Brennan Johnson’s current situation at Nottingham Forest

Brennan Johnson’s father David Johnson has revealed that talks over a new deal for his son at Nottingham Forest are likely to resume following the club’s play-off showdown with Huddersfield Town.

The Reds will be aiming to secure a place in the Premier League on Sunday when they face the Terriers at Wembley Stadium.

Johnson helped his side set up this particular clash by scoring in both legs of his side’s semi-final with Sheffield United earlier this month.

Forest prevailed on penalties as goalkeeper Brice Samba produced an heroic display at the City Ground.

Johnson’s current contract with the Reds is set to run until 2023 and he has attracted a great deal of interest from elsewhere in recent months.

Brentford, Leicester City, Everton, Newcastle United and Villarreal are all believed to be keeping tabs on the winger ahead of the summer transfer window.

Ahead of the club’s clash with Huddersfield, Johnson’s father has shared an update on his son’s current situation at Forest.

Speaking on the latest episode of Nottinghamshire Live’s Garibaldi Podcast, the former Forest player said: “It’s one of those where we don’t think about anything.

“He’s under contract to the club, in fact the manager’s contract is up at the same time.

“We just want to get Sunday out the way and hopefully the result is a great one and then we probably sit back down with the football club again.

“We don’t worry about that.

“It’s just that this is the last game.

“There’s a big job to do.

“It’s not just for my son, but if we get to the Premier League it’s a completely different conversation with every player, not just Brennan.”
