Update emerges on Chris Kirchner’s interest in Preston North End

US businessman Chris Kirchner’s talks to purchase Championship side Preston North End are advancing despite a period of silence regarding his interest, as per a Twitter update from The Sun journalist Alan Nixon.

Kirchner was previously interested in taking over fellow second-tier club Derby County, who still remain in financial peril after their entrance into administration with a preferred bidder yet to be named at Pride Park.

He even reportedly launched a £50m offer to take the Rams out of administration and with that, set them on a much stable course following a period of major turbulence off the pitch in the East Midlands.

However, he withdrew from the process in the latter stages of December and has seemingly turned his attentions to Preston, who have had one of their own off-field issues.

Then-owner Trevor Hemmings sadly passed away in October and to their credit, his family have been fully committed to the cause since then, replacing Frankie McAvoy with Ryan Lowe and that has seemingly set the Lilywhites on the right path.

However, it was reported last month that businessman Kirchner was close to completing a takeover at Deepdale, though there does seem to be uncertainty regarding this with many Preston fans inevitably wanting to know the state of play in terms of this deal.

Last night, The Sun reporter Nixon was able to provide an update and it was promising for those who want this agreement to be pushed through, saying that talks are continuing to advance.

The Verdict:

Not many Preston fans will know a huge amount about Kirchner, so whether this is a good or bad thing remains to be seen.
