"Up in the air right now" - Journalist suggests £47k-p/w West Ham star's future in doubt

The future of West Ham United midfielder Tomas Soucek is ‘up in the air right now,’ according to journalist Dean Jones.

Soucek has played a pivotal part in the capital club’s success over the past couple of campaigns, but negotiations over a new contract have reached an impasse, sparking speculation over his next steps.

Back in April, 90min reported that talks over a new deal between the 27-year-old’s representatives and West Ham’s hierarchy were put on hold at the request of manager David Moyes.

It was originally stated that discussions were set to resume following the conclusion of 2021/22 although an agreement has yet to be reached.

The Sun claim that West Ham would be prepared to listen to offers in the region of £30 million for the Czech Republic international, who has two years remaining on his current £47,000-per-week contract.

Jones believes that Soucek’s situation has ‘dragged on further than most people thought,’ and that clubs such as Villa are keeping a close eye on any developments.

“So, his futures up in the air right now, and I think that clubs like Aston Villa are just hanging in there to wait and see whether he genuinely might become available.”

Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth disclosed that West Ham recently had a €23m (£19.6m) bid for Amadou Onana turned down by LOSC Lille.

The 20-year-old only arrived at the Ligue 1 side
