'Unsafe building' incident shuts Cardiff road

These are the scenes as emergency services have closed a Cardiff road after reports of an "unsafe building". People at the scene in Four Elms Road said a large plant, almost the size of a tree, had grown through the wall of a disused building and the wall was threatening to collapse.

The affected building, next to the old Cardiff Free Library Roath branch, is unused. The road has been shut to traffic along an 80 metre stretch and the pavement alongside the affected wall has also been cordoned off. Join our WhatsApp news community here for the latest breaking news

A South Wales Polcie spokesperson said: "South Wales Police was called at 11.55am this morning with a report of an unsafe building on Four Elms Road, Cardiff. The road is currently closed up to Newport Road and drivers are being advised to avoid the area and find alternative routes."
