LIVE Police descend and huge scene in place following incident on Stockport road - updates

Emergency services are on the scene and a large cordon is in place following an incident on a Greater Manchester road this morning (September 7).

Police are in attendance on the A6188 Tiviot Way in Stockport. A section of the road is behind a cordon.

The nature of the incident is not yet clear. Pictures show a large police presence, with the entire road currently closed to traffic, according to traffic maps. The key road connects Stockport to the Manchester Outer Ring Road.

The closure of Tiviot Way is expected to continue this morning as officers carry out investigations following the collision.

It is not clear exactly when the road will reopen at this time.

We've had an initial statement through from GMP on this incident.

The force said: "Officers were called to reports of a collision on Tivot Way at around 6am this morning.

"Emergency services are on the scene and road closures are currently in place."

We expect to find out more information later in the morning.

The full extent of the closure can be seen on the map below, stretching from the Sandy Lane roundabout to Water Street.
