Unfortunate: Alasdair Gold dubs 24 y/o ace as transfer window loser at Spurs

Football journalist Alasdair Gold has claimed that Joe Rodon ‘desperately’ needed a move away from Tottenham Hotspur in the past transfer market.

Amid the usual drama of deadline day, Spurs saw a few new players arrive at their club and some big names offloaded.

Indeed, the likes of Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski came in from Juventus, while Bryan Gil, Giovani Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele all departed on loan. Elsewhere, Dele Alli joined Everton on a permanent deal.

Following all this activity, Gold published an article on football.london outlining who he considered the ‘winners and losers’ of Spurs’ winter window.

He put Rodon in the loser category, writing: “The unfortunate Welshman desperately needed a move out of Tottenham, loan or permanent, and there was interest from Spain, France and the Premier League, but ultimately nothing came of it.

“Conte told football.london that he sees Rodon as the backup in the central role to Eric Dier in his back three.

“However, in Dier’s recent absence and with question marks over the Welshman’s fitness due to a rib injury, Davinson Sanchez was drafted in awkwardly into the central role in those games.

“Cristian Romero’s return adds to Conte’s defensive options and just how much game time Rodon will get in the remainder of the campaign remains to be seen.”

TIF Thoughts on Joe Rodon and Tottenham Hotspur…

Unfortunately for the Tottenham defender, he has not been able to make much of an impact in his team this season. His best opportunities have come in the Europa Conference League, where he has played four times.

Beyond that, he has just one Premier League outing to his name, and that came before manager Antonio Conte arrived in north London.
