Underwater search team called to reservoir amid 'concern for welfare' report
The emergency services, including an underwater search team, were called to a reservoir near Bury on Sunday following reports of a 'concern for welfare'. The whole of Elton reservoir was cordoned off by police.
Greater Manchester Police, Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service and the North West Regional Underwater Search Unit was called to the reservoir this morning, gathering at Elton Sailing Club which is situated on the banks of the reservoir.
Photographs from the scene showed police and fire service personnel at the scene as well as the underwater search unit. Police officers cordoned off the whole reservoir and its banks, meaning the water remained inaccessible.
A spokeswoman for Greater Manchester Police said: "Police are currently responding to a report of concern for welfare of a person in Elton Reservoir in Bury. Emergency services remain at the scene."
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: "Just after 11.30am on Sunday 8 December, fire engines from Whitefield and Bury, along with the water incident unit from Heywood and technical rescue unit from Leigh, were called to assist police with an incident at Elton Reservoir, Bury.”
