'Understand...' - Journalist says Everton are eyeing 'terrific' striker; approach made this week

The Athletic journalist Jacob Tanswell has revealed that Everton are eyeing a potential move for Che Adams.

Frank Lampard is desperately searching around for a new striker after the injury to Dominic Calvert-Lewin, and the Goodison Park outfit have already let go of Richarlison, Ellis Simms and Nathan Broadhead this window.

The likes of Viktor Gyokeres and Serhou Guirassy are just two names who have been mentioned recently as potential arrivals, as the Merseyside club will be expected to fill the Calvert-Lewin void before the window closes.

Taking to Twitter, Tanswell has revealed that the Toffees are ‘exploring’ a loan-to-buy offer for Adams, but Southampton have publicly stated that he is not for sale:

“Understand Everton are exploring a loan-to-buy offer for Che Adams. #SaintsFC’s public stance is he’s not for sale but privately club open to letting Adams go, using funds for a new striker. Situation ongoing.”

Expanding in his article with Patrick Boyland for The Athletic, Tanswell added that an approach is thought to have been made ‘in the last few days’, and privately the Saints would be ‘willing’ to sanction his departure.

A loan-to-buy deal for Adams presents little risk to the Blues, and so they should be looking to get this deal done.

Hailed as ‘terrific‘ by Scottish football legend Ally McCoist, he has a respectable six goals in 19 games for Scotland, and 75 goals in his club career in English football.

At 26 years of age, Adams has not hit his prime yet, and so this could turn out to be a smart piece of business from EFC.
