“I’ve been told” – Journalist says 74-goal star is Lampard's "top priority" Everton signing

Everton manager Frank Lampard has made signing Southampton forward Che Adams his top priority this summer but faces a potential clash with the board at Goodison Park, according to journalist Simon Phillips.

Lampard has failed to pick up a point in any of the first two Premier League games of the season, suffering defeats to Chelsea and Aston Villa, and could strengthen his side ahead of the September 1 deadline.

According to a report from The Athletic, Everton have explored the possibility of a loan-to-buy deal for the Saints striker this summer.

They also state that Southampton could be willing to sanction the 26-year-old’s departure ahead of deadline day. Nottingham Forest and Leeds United are among the other clubs interested in his services.

Adams fell out of favour under Ralph Hasenhuttl towards the end of last season and was left on the bench for their opening day defeat to Tottenham in north London.

The £52,000 per-week star returned to the starting XI as Southampton drew 2-2 with Leeds but it remains to be seen where he stands, especially with Sekou Mara impressing from the bench.

A report from The Sun has previously claimed that Leeds hoped to tempt Saints into a sale with a £10 million offer, although they apparently value the Scotland international at a higher price.

Phillips understands that Adams is Lampard’s top priority in the transfer window ahead of deadline day as he looks to bolster his attacking options.

However, the journalist warns that the Chelsea legend must also convince others at the club.

Phillips told GIVEMESPORT: “I’ve been told that Che Adams is the top priority there for Lampard at least. But, obviously, at Everton, he’s got the board there, and the decisions are not just Lampard’s.”
