Unbeaten Maguire advances to LPGA Matchplay quarter-finals
Unbeaten Leona Maguire moved into the last eight of the Bank of Hope LPGA Matchplay in Las Vegas on Friday with a 5&3 win over France's Perrine Delacour.
The Cavan woman, fresh from yesterday’s resounding 5&3 win over Narin An to move into the knockout stages, recovered from going behind at the fourth, where the world number 42 carded a birdie.
Three holes later and Maguire levelled matters and from there she never looked back.
After eight successive birdies, she picked up a shot at the ninth, but so did the Frenchwoman to ensure it was all square.
A par at the next saw Maguire take the lead for the first time. She parred the next four holes, but Pelacour couldn’t match that scoring, and quickly found herself four down, with Maguire wrapping things up by the 15th hole.
Next up for Maguire is a quarter-final against Lyndsey Weaver-Wright, who won 4&3 against Sophia Schubert.
