Ultra-runner Kate Jayden set astonishing marathon world record with broken knee

Ultra-runner Kate Jayden has revealed she completed an astonishing marathon world record with a fractured knee.

The 35-year-old from Derbyshire ran a marathon every day for 106 days, finishing on April 15th, and her achievement has now been verified by Guinness World Records.

On the 46th day of the challenge, Jayden discovered she was struggling to bear her weight, but still completed another 60 marathons.

A scan later revealed she had a fractured knee which will need surgery, something the British star has only just disclosed.

“The reality is I have to take it that I won’t be able to run again – if I do then it will be out of the ordinary,” Jayden told BBC News.

“I didn’t realise that last day on day 106, that was going to be my last long distance run. But if you could have planned it to be, it was an excellent way to go out.”

Jayden initially planned to run 100 marathons to raise money for charity, but then realised she could submit a world record attempt by completing six more.

She went on to raise more than £43,000 for The Hygiene Bank, Refugee Council and The Trussell Trust.

Jayden may now have to step away from running, but she credited the activity with drastically improving her life.

“I started running as I was recovering from an eating disorder and it kind of saved me and taught me to value my body,” she said.

“In reality, running did so much for me – so much for my health and my life.”
