Ulster sign up Munster out-half Flannery

Munster out-half Jake Flannery has agreed a move to Ulster for next season.

The 22-year-old, who can also play full-back, has agreed a one-year deal at Kingspan Stadium, having fallen to the back of the lengthy out-half queue at his home province.

The 2019 U20 Six Nations Grand Slam winner has featured five times for Munster since his debut in 2020, but with Joey Carbery, Jack Crowley and Ben Healy all vying for game time, the Tipperary native has moved north to Ulster where there is less of a logjam.

Dan McFarland's side have Billy Burns as their first choice 10, while Ian Madigan has struggled with injuries since his move to Belfast in 2020.

Angus Curtis and Mike Lowry have also featured at out-half for Ulster this season, although the pair look more likely to feature in the centre and full-back respectively in the long term.

Head coach, Dan McFarland, said: "We are looking forward to welcoming Jake to Ulster. He is coming with good intent to work hard on developing all areas of his game with our coaching team and his fellow players."

Flannery said: "I'm excited to be joining Ulster. They’ve got a really exciting back line and play a style which I feel I can excel in. I leave Munster grateful for all the people who have helped me develop and grow.

"I have high ambitions and I think Ulster will help me to strive for these."
