Ulster defeat Connacht on penalties in Railway Cup as new rules trialled

Ulster defeated Connacht 2-1 on penalties to win the Railway Cup at Croke Park, with the new proposed rules trialled once again.

The full-time score was at level: 2-23 to 4-15.

Odhran Murdock, a Tailteann Cup final winner with Down at Croke Park in July, kicked a dramatic winner for Ulster at the end of a chaotic penalty shoot-out to secure the inter-provincial title.

The result was largely irrelevant given that the tournament once known as the Railway Cup, and which Ulster have now won 33 times, was revived merely to road test the Football Review Committee's suite of trial rules, or 'rules enhancements'.

But both provinces certainly battled like there was something significant on the line, even if it was only bragging rights in the end.

Leinster claimed the shield title defeating Munster 1-19 1-15.
