Ulster confirm facial fracture for full-back Ethan McIlroy

Ulster say their utility back Ethan McIlroy is recovering at home after suffering a concussion and facial fracture during Friday night's 21-14 win against Munster at Kingspan Stadium.

The 23-year-old was involved in a nasty collision with his opposite number Shane Daly as he attempted to score a try after 13 minutes of the BKT United Rugby Championship interpro in Belfast.

The full-back was briefly unconscious on the pitch, but was thankfully able to walk to the sideline before being taken to hospital.

"He was treated at the Royal Victoria Hospital Emergency Department and was discharged home on Friday evening," a statement from the province said on Tuesday.

"The Ulster Rugby medical team would like to thank their colleagues in the RVH for the excellent care and attention they afforded to Ethan, following his injury."

Daly was given a yellow card for the challenge, in which his arm connected with McIlroy's head as he attempted to make a covering tackle.

However, Ulster coach Dan McFarland did not believe the incident merited further sanction.

"He got caught with the arm, but I don't think it was malicious in any way, his head was low," McFarland said after the game.

McIlroy appears to be the only fresh injury to emerge for Ulster after their win v Munster.

Iain Henderson and Stewart Moore both required treatment for knocks on the pitch during the game, but have not been included on this week's injury report, with the pair expected to be fit for this Friday night's visit of the Lions to Belfast.

Meanwhile, tighthead prop Marty Moore is edging closer to a return to action, after more than 10 months out injured.

The 32-year-old hasn't played since suffering a serious knee injury on New Year's Day, but took a part in Ulster's warm-up
