UK shoppers urged to 'stock up' on nine items from supermarkets like Tesco, Lidl, Aldi, Asda
UK residents have been urged to stockpile items, bought from stores like Asda, Sainsbury's, Morrisons, Tesco, Lidl and Aldi, in preparation for emergencies. The government's "Prepare" website recommends storing a three-day supply of essentials such as bottled water and canned meats.
The site advises a daily consumption of three litres of water per person, suggesting ten litres for additional comfort during cooking and hygiene practices.
Food recommendations include non-perishable foods that don't need cooking such as canned meats, alongside vegetables and fruits. Unsurprisingly, a can opener is listed fifth on the list, followed by batteries and wet wipes.

"Who can forget the empty supermarket shelves in the early days of the pandemic? ," reflected Oliver Dowden. He asked, "And how many of us have since acted so we'd be better prepared if it happened again? If there was a national power outage, how many of us have torches and batteries? ", reports Birmingham Live.
The cabinet member further queried: "If the water went off, how many of us have a few bottles stored away? " This new guidance comes after a poll conducted by the London Defence Conference discovered over 40% of respondents don't have three-day emergency supplies.
Moreover, only 15% professed to having an emergency kit at home. Mr Dowden said he is personally prepared though, adding: "I can assure you that we've got plenty of resilience in the cupboards and we've got some water in the shed." And we've got some better battery-powered torches."
