UFC 278 results: Leon Edwards stuns Kamaru Usman, Costa beats Rockhold, Aldo loses

Leon Edwards knocked out Kamaru Usman with an insane head kick in the fifth and last round of their rematch to capture the welterweight title in the main event of UFC 278.

Paulo Costa beat Luke Rockhold in a thrilling back-and-forth slugfest and Merab Dvalishvili ground out a decision win over Jose Aldo at Vivint Arena in Salt Lake City.

Elsewhere on the card, there were wins for Tyson Pedro, Lucie Pudilova and Marcin Tybura, who defeated Harry Hunsucker, Wu Yanan and Aleksandar Romanov respectively.

Edwards looked like he was about to lose a decision before he laid Usman out flat on his back.

After the fight Edwards said: “You all said I couldn’t do it. Look at me now! Head shot, dead. That’s it. 

“It doesn’t matter from the trenches. I’m built like this. I go until the bell’s done. 

“Look at me now. I told you I could do it. Pound-for-pound, what? The belt belongs to nobody!

“I can’t explain it. God is on my side. I felt like this was my moment. 

“They all said I couldn’t come back and do it. Now look at me now. Champion of the world.”
