Leon Edwards KOs Kamaru Usman: UFC fan footage of brutal kick emerges
Leon Edwards shocked us all in the early hours of Sunday morning from Salt Lake City as he became the new UFC welterweight champion after a stunning comeback to knockout the defending champion, Kamaru Usman.
The Brit got off to a flying start in the fight, winning the first round by most accounts. However, it was downhill from there, with Edwards unable to keep up with the champion who dominated until late in the contest.
With time running out, Edwards needed something spectacular, he needed a knockout from nowhere to achieve his dream of becoming a UFC world champion. Something spectacular was pulled out as a brutal kick connected with Usman’s head, sending him to the canvas out cold.
As a fan, combat sports can often be an interesting concept, with the chances of an incredibly early knockout cutting short that main event you’ve been waiting a while for. The event still has an undercard to make it worth it and to be fair, a shock early end is still a ‘I was there’ moment to remember.
Thankfully, for fans at UFC 278 it came late on in the piece, so to say they got their money’s worth is an understatement!
We’ve seen plenty of different angles of the knockout, with Joe Rogan’s live reaction to it summing up the shock it sent throughout the arena as his eyes pop out of his head and he nearly falls off his chair.
Now, footage from the crowd has emerged on social media, showing us their point of view for the knockout and then Edwards diving out of the Octagon to celebrate his famous victory.
The crowd are in total shock before cheering for the unreal revival from Edwards, winning when all seemed lost in a shocking turnaround.
You can see the knockout crystal clear on the footage from the fan, who captured the moment
