UFC 277: Amanda Nunes splatters Octagon with Julianna Peña’s blood in unanimous win

Amanda Nunes reclaimed her bantamweight title by earning a unanimous five-round decision over Julianna Peña at UFC 277.

The Brazilian was seeking revenge for her shock defeat to Peña in December.

Nunes was dominant throughout the majority of last night’s bout in Dallas, dropping Peña three times in the second round.

She also took down her opponent midway through the third round, before landing a number of punches which left Peña’s blood splattered on the mat.

The canvas was stained with even more of Peña’s blood in the fourth and fifth rounds, producing a shocking sight as the final seconds of the fight ticked away.

The judges confirmed Nunes’s dominance once the five rounds were up, scoring 50-45, 50-44 and 50-43.

The victory meant the 34-year-old, who also holds the featherweight title, became the first two-time double champion in UFC history.

After the fight, Nunes claimed she intentionally went to five rounds to prove a point.

“I know Julianna’s tough,” she said. “I know. I was ready for that.

“I could’ve finished her, but I wanted to go five rounds with her tonight to prove I was better than her… I’m better than her. I proved it tonight.”

With next to no opponents for Nunes in the featherweight division, it seems a third fight against Peña would be the logical next step.

But she revealed she intended to take a break from UFC, allowing her to return home to Brazil.

“Let me sit down, let me go back to Brazil,” Nunes said. “I haven’t seen my family in three years because of the pandemic.

“I need a little rest. I know you guys want to see me back but let the ‘Lioness’ rest a little bit and I’ll be back as soon as
