UEFA reveal Celtic and Shakhtar Donetsk clash won't feature minute's silence in honour of The Queen

Celtic's clash with Shakhtar Donetsk will now not feature a pre-match minute's silence in memory of Queen Elizabeth II.

Ange Postecoglou's side continue their Champions League group stage campaign in Warsaw on Wednesday - moved to Poland because of the war in Ukraine - and there was set to be a tribute to the late monarch ahead of kick-off. But UEFA have now announced the silence will not take place following discussions at the pre-match briefing.

It's said a decision on whether players for both sides will don black armbands is yet to be finalised. The Queen passed away aged 96 last week and all football in the UK was called off at the weekend as a mark of respect. Fixtures are now resuming - with several clubs in European action this week - and Celtic manager Postecoglou said on Tuesday that the club would mark the occasion in their own way. He said: “I will abide by whatever regulations there are. I’m not the keeper of people’s obligations.

"We live in a society where people can express their own values in any way they want. I will be doing it my way and my club will do it our way, and everyone else can do what they like.”
