UEFA hold Scotland vs Ukraine emergency talks as world football placed on DEFCON 1

President Aleksandr Ceferin has called an emergency UEFA meeting to take "the necessary decisions" amid the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia that has placed world football on high alert.

And it could impact on Scotland's World Cup qualifier against Ukraine at Hampden which is due to take place next month as well as Russia's qualifier with Poland in Moscow.

The Champions League final venue will also be discussed with the showpiece fixture due to take place in St Petersburg.

Earlier on Thursday it was announced that the Ukrainian Premier League would be postponed for at least 30 days after the invasion of Russian troops on Wednesday evening.

It won't resume until 26 March - two days after Ukraine are due to travel to Hampden.

The conflict has put football on the backburner with a number of Ukrainian footballers joining their own battalion in the face of impending war.

UEFA president Ceferin has moved to address the situation after significant evolution in the last 24 hours.

He has called for an extraordinary meeting of UEFA's Executive Committee which will take place on Friday 25 February at 10am CET.

The committee will "evaluate the situation and take all necessary decisions."

It means the Hampden clash is now looking increasingly at risk and Scots will likely know by Friday afternoon whether the game is set to go ahead.
