U.S. policy must match the strength of American business in Ukraine
Statement by the American Chamber of Commerce in Ukraine on the fourth anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion
On February 24, 2022, the world gave Ukraine three days. Today marks the 1,462nd day of Russia's unprovoked full-scale war. Four years of air raid sirens and missiles overhead. Four years of destroyed homes and stolen lives. Four years of Russia's brutal full-scale aggression and four years of Ukraine standing, fighting, and resisting.
Freedom has its price. Ukraine pays for it every day. Defenders with incredible courage hold the line on the front lines, inspiring the free world. Workers join the ranks of the Armed Forces. Colleagues are killed. Families are torn apart by war. Businesses are destroyed. Russia seeks to erase Ukraine: to destroy its sovereignty, plunge its people into darkness, and ruin its economy.
Day after day, Russia continues to destroy and humiliate American businesses operating in Ukraine. Forty-seven percent of the production facilities and factories of Chamber member companies have been damaged. Thirty-eight percent of companies have had employees killed.
Putin is not only attacking Ukraine — he is deliberately targeting the American economic presence here. The attacks on US brands are a direct signal to America. And yet, companies remain here — believing, investing, and creating jobs. US policy must match the strength of spirit of American businesses operating in Ukraine every day. Putin must be stopped.
Four years into a full-scale war, Ukraine remains open for business. Despite continuous attacks, almost half of the damaged enterprises have been completely restored. Ninety percent of companies are fully operational. They work during blackouts, recover after shelling, and protect
