Tyson Fury v Oleksandr Usyk: Gypsy King issues 7-day £500m ultimatum
Tyson Fury has delivered an ultimatum to overseas boxing promoters stating that the $500m funds need to be paid within the next week to fund the fight with Oleksandr Usyk or he will be staying retired.
As for the context of the situation, here is the full outline of events which has led to Fury naming his price for a return to the ring.
Usyk successfully retained the unified WBO, WBA and IBF titles this past Saturday in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, defeating Anthony Joshua in a awesome split decision rematch.
While AJ put in a performance that showed improvement combined with a lot of heart, ‘The Cat’ put on another boxing masterclass which ensured the Ukrainian remained on top of the heavyweight division.
Following the monumental victory, Usyk called out ‘The Gypsy King’ for an undisputed world championship showdown in the ring following the big bout:
“I’m sure that Tyson Fury is not retired yet, I’m sure, I’m convinced he wants to fight me. I want to fight him and if I’m not fighting at all.”
A short time later, Fury posted a video on Instagram criticising both Joshua and Usyk and then stated he could be tempted out of a brief retirement:
Tyson Fury on the Oleksandr Usyk fight: "This fight is purely about money. I'm happily retired, I've got plenty of money. It needs to be the biggest payday in the world. Floyd Mayweather got $400million for Manny Pacquiao. I want $500million for Usyk." [@talkSPORT]
“It was one of the worst heavyweight title fights I have ever seen,” Fury declared.
“I would annihilate both of them on the same night. Get your chequebook out because the Gypsy King is here to stay forever.”
Fury would take to his Instagram stories again four days later, posting two sets of videos and issuing the ultimatum
