Oleksandr Usyk hits back at Tyson Fury and defends Anthony Joshua

Oleksandr Usyk has taken aim at Tyson Fury for pretending to be retired while he defended Anthony Joshua‘s bizarre post-fight outburst.

The Ukrainian retained his belts with a controversial split decision over Joshua at Jeddah Superdome in Saudi Arabia on August 20, despite clearly dominating his British opponent for the majority of the fight.

Shortly after the fight concluded, Fury took to Twitter to call for a fight with Usyk, accusing him of ‘running’ scared after previously accepting his callout.

And now Usyk has responded by mocking Fury’s recent retirement claim as he hit back at the Gypsy King.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: “He wants to fight against me.

“He wants people to talk about him. He hasn’t retired yet, it’s just a game – ‘I’m leaving boxing’, ‘I’m coming back’. He still wants to earn money.

“All the fanciful comments against me, he probably thinks it will touch me. But it won’t.

“I take it like the crow arguing with the wolf sitting from the tree… the reality is that if the crow was close to the wolf, she would keep silent.

“Tyson Fury loves to talk. All of that blah blah blah.”

Joshua meanwhile has been accused of ‘stealing Usyk’s moment’ by former world champion Carl Froch after taking the microphone and giving a speech to the crowd following his split decision loss in their highly-anticipated rematch.

However Usyk said he doesn’t see it that way as he understands how Joshua was feeling after suffering the third defeat of his professional career.

He added: “It’s wrong to think that he had stolen my moment.

“He said what he wanted. Thank God the victory was mine.
