Tyson Fury's dad John blamed for Oleksandr Usyk defeat after corner incident

Tyson Fury's father, John Fury, has come under fire for his part in his son's defeat to Oleksandr Usyk.

In what was the first loss of his professional career, 'The Gypsy King' Tyson Fury was outpointed in a split decision by Ukrainian boxer Usyk, who claimed the title of undisputed heavyweight champion. The high-stakes bout took place in Saudi Arabia, with Usyk narrowly securing the win on Saturday night.

Both teams were confident of victory, and as the fight progressed into the final round, Fury's corner was heard cautioning him against any errors. Advice from one of the trainers included: "Don't cross your god damn legs, be ready to punch. Don't be afraid to slide in, quit pulling back or you'll get caught" while John Fury was overheard shouting: "One round to undisputed".

Despite their belief, two judges had Usyk in the lead, indicating that Fury needed a decisive hit to clinch the win. Fans have since criticised his corner, including John Fury, for what they perceive as misguided advice.

Comments from fans include one saying: "His corner totally misjudged that. Might have been a different situation had they told him he was losing during the later rounds.", reports the Mirror.

Another voiced frustration: "rubbish from his corner! " A third pointed out: "Fury's dad completely contradicting the head coach".

Post-fight, Tyson Fury insisted he felt he had won most of the rounds, and now speculation grows around a potential rematch, with a clause apparently in place for such an eventuality.
