Tyrell hails Dubs' composure after thriller at Páirc Ui Rinn

Dublin's Hannah Tyrrell believes that her side’s experience and composure was what eventually got them over the line as they edged to a thrilling 4-13 to 3-15 victory over Cork in the Lidl NFL Division 1.

By half-time it looked like Dublin had already wrapped up the game when four first-half goals saw them lead by double scores, 4-08 to 0-10.

However, a storming restart from Cork saw them back in contention and with five minutes to go they were in front at Páirc Ui Rinn. The home side got two early second-half goals to aid their fightback.

But a couple of late frees from Carla Rowe saw the visitors run out winners by a single point.

Afterwards Tyrrell hailed the mental strength of her side as the deciding factor in the game.

She said: "Both teams played some really exciting football, really high tempo but we were probably lucky to escape with a one-point win in the end there.

"Cork played some fantastic football in the second-half but we really showed our composure and we were lucky enough to get over the line there.

"The rivalry there over the last couple of years has been fantastic and it obviously goes way back.

"We’re friendly enough off the pitch but on it there’s always that little bit extra but as I said, we’re happy to come out on the right side of it today."

Dublin manager Mick Bohan was equally pleased with the resolve his players showed.

"We started off poor and they put us under pressure but when we squeezed up on them we found ourselves with a lot of really good opportunities. We did really well at that period of time," said Bohan.

"[We were] very disappointing at start of second half and they were a bit lucky with the first goal but we know this, it can swing the energy of the game away from you.
