Two Team Ireland swimmers qualify for finals on day one of Paralympics
Two Irish swimmers have qualified for finals on the first day of the Paralympic games in Paris.
They will both swim in their finals later this evening, after qualifying on Thursday morning.
Three-time Paralympian Nicole Turner finished third in the Women's 50-metre freestyle S-6 heat.
The Laois woman will swim in the final at 6.19pm Irish time this evening, but unfortunately, Dearbhaile Brady didn't qualify.
An hour later, Róisín Ní Riain goes into the Women's 100-metre Butterfly S-13 final after finishing fourth in her heat. She swims at 7.10pm.
Damien Vereker and pilot Mitchell McLaughlin came seventh in the B-4 Men's 4000-metre Individual Pursuit at the velodrome.
Martin Gordon - alongside Eoin Mullen - finished in 12th position.
Richael Timothy also didn't make the medal race in the Women's 3000-metre Individual Pursuit.
The Roscommon rider finished seventh in a personal best time of four minutes 5.247 seconds.
All the riders have more events to compete in, in Paris.
There is one Irish athlete involved in the ranking round of the Women's Individual Compound in Para Archery.
Meath bow-woman Kerrie Leonard is currently 22nd in the latter stages of that event.
