Two simple words that sum up remarkable togetherness behind Huddersfield Town success
The increasingly routine post-match celebrations the Terriers squad go through in front of their fans after each victory make the empty stadiums of last season feel like a distant memory. This is what winning a football match should look like.
Whether home or away, Huddersfield Town will line up in front of their own fans, join hands, and encourage the crowd to roar them near and pump their arms in rhythm with the delirious ‘aaay, aaay, aaay’ of the supporters.
Even the stoney Matty Pearson seems to be getting carried along with it now having looked a bit unsure about it at Fulham. The Sorba Thomas wiggle that usually follows is becoming a perennial favourite that the crowd will mirror back to him, and which the less nimble Naby Sarr has previously made a game attempt to join in with, not so much cutting up rug as decimating the carpet in the process.
These moments are easy to enjoy when you’re on the kind of run Town are on: 17 games unbeaten in all competitions, in case you’d lost count, and currently third in the table.
There’s always the possibility of a banana skin around the corner – welcome to the John Smith’s Stadium, bottom-of-the-table Peterborough – but in the here and now, this season is going far better than anyone could have dreamed.
There is an English tendency to attribute everything good a football team does to passion and togetherness and spirit, and to do so here would be to ignore the excellent work Town have done in all departments, from fitness and nutrition to tactics and strategy to technique and creativity. It is currently very difficult to find fault on the pitch, and that is an enormous credit to Carlos Corberan and his players
But that passion, togetherness and spirit is still
