Huddersfield Town fatigue and Carlos Corberan's misspent faith in five conclusions on Bournemouth

Huddersfield Town were outclassed and soundly beaten in the Championship for the second time in four days as they fell to a 0-3 home defeat to second-placed Bournemouth.

Carlos Corberan’s side were effectively out of the game from the moment Jaidon Anthony gave the visitors a 19th minute lead off a Dominic Solanke assist, with Jefferson Lerma doubling the lead immediately after Lee Nicholls had saved well from Solanke just after the half hour.

Any hope Town had of clawing themselves back into the game evaporated within a minute of the restart as Solanke added his own name to the scoresheet with a nice flick off a Philip Billing assist. Here are our five conclusions on a listless defeat for the Terriers.

“I am thinking that this game gave us a clear message that we need to improve as a team to compete against every type of opponent or especially the opponents that are in a better position than us in the table.”

Those are Carlos Corberan’s words after watching his side lose 3-0 against Bournemouth – but they’re actually from the press conference after the reverse fixture back in October. That they seem so fitting again now, after another defeat to the same opposition and by the same scoreline, is all the proof you need that Town have taken several huge steps back over the past fortnight.

Going out of the cup to Forest? Fine. Then losing that two-goal lead at West Brom could have been written off as a freak occurrence if Town had responded with a victory against either Millwall; and likewise, the loss at The Den in midweek could have been handwaved off as simply meeting the wrong team at the wrong time if they had put in an improved performance against Bournemouth – even without getting a result.
