Two men, 18 and 24, arrested in police drugs crackdown

Two men were arrested by police in a drugs crackdown.

Greater Manchester Police said officers swooped to execute warrants at two properties in the Worsley Mesnes area of Wigan on Friday morning. The operation led to the arrest of an 18-year-old and a 24-year-old man.

The teen was held on suspicion of possession of class A drugs and theft of a motor vehicle. The 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of class A drugs with intent to supply, GMP added in a statement.

A spokesman said: "The operation was conducted in response to critical intelligence regarding county lines activity within the area. As a result of these coordinated efforts, two individuals were taken into custody.

"Both arrested individuals have been interviewed and subsequently bailed pending further investigation."

Detective Inspector Patrick Wood, of GMP Wigan Challenger Team, said: "This warrant was conducted as part of an ongoing operation called Operation Portlock, which is Wigan's comprehensive initiative to combat serious organised crime and enhance the safety of our community.

"This brings together a multi-agency approach designed to address the challenges posed by criminal activities and the vulnerabilities they create in our area.
