Two in hospital following serious smash on major road to Peak District

Two people were taken to hospital following a serious crash near Marple this afternoon. The emergency services were scrambled to the A626 Glossop Road in Marple Bridge today (December 31).

The crash involved two cars and resulted in Glossop Road - one of the main roads in and out of the Peak District - to be closed while the emergency services dealt with the incident.

Two people were taken to hospital, one of them with serious injuries, a spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said today (Tuesday).

Pictures from the scene showed a section of Glossop Road cordoned off, with police patrol cars stationed nearby.

The closure resulted in a series of diversions including for a number of High Peak bus services. The road was re-opened by 3pm.

An investigation into the crash is continuing, according to GMP whose spokesperson said further details would be released later.
