Tuchel reveals what four-goal blitz does for his belief; namechecks ‘quality’ Chelsea star

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel feels Chelsea scoring four second-half goals to overcome a stubborn Burnley outfit proves just how far his side has come.

The Blues were overwhelming favourites to take all three points from Turf Moor despite the Clarets improvement in form. Sean Dyche’s men had beaten Brighton and Tottenham while they drew with Crystal Palace before losing out to Leicester. The 4-0 reverse at home to Chelsea means they are still in the relegation zone and face a battle for top-flight survival.

However, a goalless first half gave the home fans hope they might come away with something to show for the efforts. But a brace from Kai Havertz sandwiched between strikes from Reece James and Christian Pulisic turned the match on its head.

The 22-minute blitz ensured the points went back to west London and kept them well ahead of the chasing pack. And Tuchel believes the way his charges responded to the situation shows what a side they have become.

“The first goal helped us. In these matches that are so tight, that obviously gives you a lot of confidence,” he told BBC Sport. “It’s a good performance overall because it’s not easy to come to Turf Moor. It was a good team performance, very focused.

“It improves my impression that we’re constantly getting better and better. We deserved to win and it was a very good second half.”

Reece James recently returned from injury and featured in the EFL Cup final defeat to Liverpool. He also made an appearance against Luton in the FA Cup.
