Triple H: WWE nearly had to fire wrestling legend

Triple H was nearly fired by WWE, despite his father-in-law Vince McMahon being his boss.

Prior to becoming Head of Creative, a role he was appointed into in July, Triple H was one of WWE’s most successful wrestlers ever.

Despite going on to have a great deal of success, during his time with Shawn Michaels in DX, Triple H recalled WWE threatening to fire him.

During his time with Shawn Michaels, Triple H’s DX faction were involved in some of the craziest segments that we’ve ever seen in WWE.

The group often pushed the boat on what was and wasn’t acceptable, with Triple H revealing during a recent interview that it nearly resulted in him being fired by Vince McMahon.

Triple H told SPORTbible that the risque nature of his skits with Shawn Michaels were so bad that the USA Network got involved, leading to Vince having to make an ultimatum.

Vince would tear us apart. He was p**sed. The network ended up writing to WWE insisting that the group had ‘gone too far’, and moved to ban them from using certain words between certain times on air. Vince brought us this letter and it said ‘[DX] either get fired or you’re no longer on the air.’ Vince said “Here it is, you guys have crossed the line, in black and white.”

DX decided to have some fun and read out the letter from the USA Network during an episode of Raw, which thankfully the bosses found to be quite amusing.

Triple H is no longer an active wrestler for WWE, with the multi-time World Champion retiring from in-ring competition in April 2022 as a result on medical grounds.

‘The Game’ was forced to retire after undergoing surgery for a genetic condition with his heart that nearly saw him lose his life in the summer of 2021.
