Trevor Sinclair gives verdict on struggling Manchester United and questions three players

Former footballer Trevor Sinclair says Manchester United need to sort out the structure of the club before they worry about bringing in a new manager.

United, who currently sit sixth in the Premier League, have endured a disappointing season which has left them fighting desperately for a Champions League spot.

Sinclair, who played for the likes of Manchester City and West Ham, believes it’s not important who United appoint as their new boss in the summer if the club doesn’t have the right support around him.

Speaking on talkSPORT, he said: ‘It doesn’t matter what manager comes in to Manchester United next if they don’t get their eggs in a row properly and put the people in place that they need to.

‘Director of football, philosophy, recruitment, manager, and in that order. (Otherwise) they’re just going to end up with a mismatch of players. You look through the side, you’ve got Pogba who’s ready to go.

‘Sancho’s come in as a winger – can’t beat a player, not quick enough. You’ve got Varane, for me the jury’s still out on him. You’ve got Ronaldo, can’t press, so why are you bringing him into the football club in the first place?’

The signings of Raphael Varane, Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho last summer were supposed to kickstart a title challenge for United this season. However, a charge alongside Manchester City and Liverpool didn’t materialise.

In November, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked by the club after a run of dreadful results left the board with little option but to part ways with the Norwegian.
