Jurgen Klopp gives verdict on Manchester United appointment of Erik ten Hag

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp believes the appointment of Erik ten Hag is the start of Manchester United's fightback.

The 52-year-old Dutchman was confirmed as the club's next permanent manager on Thursday, signing a three-year deal with the option of a fourth.

Ten Hag will now see out this season with Ajax as he attempts to win a third Eredivisie title, before starting work at Old Trafford soon after the end of the season.

His appointment is a lift to United after a dreadful season under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and now interim manager Ralf Rangnick.

They plumbed new depths on Tuesday night when they were beaten 4-0 by Liverpool at Anfield, having lost 5-0 to the same opponents at Old Trafford earlier this season.

Klopp refused the opportunity to rub salt into the wounds after the game, insisting he wasn't going to "humiliate" United and that they would undoubtedly "strike back".

The appointment of Ten Hag is United's attempt to do just that and asked if this was the catalyst they needed, Klopp agreed.

"Yes. They know now what they want to do in the future, they can start with whatever they want to do for next season, for the next few years. That's it," said Klopp.
