Trevor Carson set for Dundee transfer after six figure fee agreed for St Mirren keeper

Dundee are closing in on a deal for Trevor Carson - after agreeing a significant six figure fee with St Mirren.

The Premiership new boys are set to sign the Northern Ireland international after they struck a deal with the Buddies. The Dark Blues have been keen on the 35-year-old all summer but have now managed to thrash out a fee. Dundee boss Tony Docherty is ready to close a deal for Carson ahead of Saturday’s opener with Motherwell.

Docherty now has real strength in depth in his goalkeeping department. He has signed Jon McCracken on-loan from Norwich City this summer and already has experienced Adam Legzdins and Harrison Sharp. Carson signed a new deal with St Mirren last season and was one of their top performers but his time in Paisley turned sour after a falling out with manager Stephen Robinson at the end of last season. The former Motherwell and Dundee United keeper has since been looking for an exit but the Buddies board remained resolute and made it clear, despite numerous offers from clubs in Scotland and England, that he was going nowhere unless their valuation was met.

St Mirren recently sold Declan Gallagher to Dundee United for a six figure fee. A main policy of the board is to try and move players on before their peak and then to allow any fees to be reinvested in the first-team squad. Carson has played no part in pre-season and Robinson has already brought in Zach Hemming on loan from Middlesbrough as Saints new No. 1.

The Paisley board have already invested heavily in Robinson’s team this season bringing in a number of players, including Irish winger Conor McMenamin for a significant six figure fee and Israeli striker Stav Nahmani. They have continued to back Robinson with their highest ever budget
