Transfer revelation emerges involving Blackburn Rovers

Blackburn Rovers centre-back Hayden Carter has revealed he would be open to re-joining League One club Portsmouth on another loan deal next term, making this transfer revelation to The News.

The 22-year-old played in eight of Rovers’ opening 11 league games of the 2021/22 campaign, plying his trade both at right-back and in his more natural position in the centre as he became an important first-teamer for Tony Mowbray’s side.

However, he made just one further league appearance after that and that came in their 7-0 home humiliation against title favourites Fulham, a game to forget for the defender in what was the second-tier side’s lowest point of the season thus far.

And with Scott Wharton returning to the first team as an option alongside Jan Paul van Hecke and captain Darragh Lenihan, that looked set to limit Carter’s game time at Ewood Park for the foreseeable future.

With that, he was sent out on loan to third-tier outfit Pompey in January, making nine league appearances for Danny Cowley’s men so far as one of the first names on the teamsheet and even managing to get on the scoresheet against Oxford United on Tuesday evening, a goal that proved to be crucial in their 3-2 victory.

Enjoying a fruitful spell at Fratton Park currently, the 22-year-old even went as far as saying he would be open to another loan deal next term, with his Blackburn future uncertain at this stage.

Speaking to The News, he said: “I’m under contract at Blackburn for another two-and-a-half years.

“So I’m just here and focusing on the next 13 games and doing the best I can for Portsmouth.

“Yes I would (be interested in another loan), but I guess we just have to see when I go back to Blackburn.
