John Terry sends message to highly-rated attacker after West Brom departure

John Terry has sent a message to highly-rated young attacker Leo Cardoso after he left West Bromwich Albion to join Chelsea. 

The Blues have been linked with the 15-year-old since October but are understood to have battled off multiple other clubs to sign Cardoso, with the player confirming the move via Instagram last night.

His post includes a message to the players and staff at Albion as well as pictures of him signing his Chelsea contract and holding up a shirt alongside Terry and Petr Cech.

The former has been quick to send a message to the Premier League club’s latest recruit – congratulating him on the move and welcoming him to Stamford Bridge.

Birmingham Live has revealed that scouts from across Europe have been watching Cardoso for some time, with Chelsea beating off interest from multiple clubs to get a deal done.

According to Football Insider, the teenager – who is comfortable as an attacking midfielder and a winger – was regarded as a huge talent at Albion and is seen as one of the best young players in the country.

The Verdict

Given his Aston Villa links, Terry’s apparent involvement in the deal and his message to Cardoso may make the 15-year-old’s departure even more frustrating for Albion fans.

They’ll likely be used to seeing exciting talents depart to bigger clubs by now, with Louie Barry, Morgan Rogers, and Nathan Ferguson all doing similar in recent years.

Even so, to keep seeing bright prospects depart to develop at other clubs has to be difficult for The Hawthorns faithful.
