Transfer insider drops promising prediction for Spurs after Paratici's huge scouting mission

Transfer insider Dean Jones doesn’t expect Tottenham target Brennan Johnson to be playing in the Championship next season.

The Nottingham Forest winger has been in superb form this season, which has caught the attention of the Premier League.

Having returned from a productive loan spell in League One with Lincoln last term, big things were expected of the 20-year-old. In 48 appearances across all competitions, Johnson scored 13 goals and chipped in with 14 assists to help the Imps reach the play-off final.

Despite the step up in quality to Championship level, Johnson has looked at home, scoring eight goals and laying on five assists in the second-tier.

Furthermore, Johnson has performed impressively in the FA Cup against Arsenal and Leicester, with his showing against the Foxes leading to high praise from Alan Shearer on Match of the Day, who said he has “incredible pace”.

Such is Johnson’s form, Tottenham sporting director Fabio Paratici was set to watch him and his Forest teammate Djed Spence in the fourth round tie. Meanwhile, Brentford saw an £18m bid rejected in January, while Leeds were also interested in signing him.

Johnson’s contract expires in the summer of 2023, meaning he’ll have just 12 months remaining at the end of the season, although Forest are trying to tie him down to a new deal.

But Jones doesn’t expect him to be at the club next season, unless they get promoted to the Premier League, which remains a possibility following their improved form under Steve Cooper.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “I think that Brennan Johnson has every single belief that he can go to the Premier League. I don’t expect him to be a Championship player next season.”
