Trains from Manchester to Liverpool disrupted due to a fire next to track

Trains between Liverpool and Manchester are currently disrupted due to a fire next to the tracks blocking all lines. The fire is between Huyton and Wigan North Western, with trains having to be diverted causing delays.

A Northern spokesman said: "Services between Huyton and Wigan North Western are currently being disrupted due to fire next to the track. Network Rail and Fire services are on site attempting to extinguish the fire."

Train services are unable to run between these stations in both directions at the moment. The diversions in place are delaying journeys by up to 30 minutes.

Trains will not be calling at Bryn, Garswood, St Helens Central, Thatto Heath, Eccleston Park and Prescot, while the fire is being dealt with. Road replacement transport has been requested to operate between Huyton and Wigan North Western in both directions, Northern said.

When the delays were first announced Northern said they expected it to be finished by 8pm but that has now been pushed back to 8.30pm. Northern have been approached for more information on the location of the blaze.
