Trains between Manchester Piccadilly and Sheffield severely reduced this weekend

Trains between Manchester and Sheffield will run on a reduced service from today due to planned engineering works.

There will be one TransPennine train every two hours, and a rail replacement bus running opposite, according to the train company’s website.

Rail replacement buses between Stockport, Dore & Totley and Sheffield will also be in place from Monday to Friday at morning peak time only.

The engineering works are expected to last from today, March 16 to next Sunday, March 24.

Inrix, a traffic monitoring site, earlier reported: “Buses run instead of trains on Transpennine Express between Manchester Piccadilly and Sheffield due to engineering works.”

On the TransPennine website, it reads: “From Saturday 16 to Sunday 24 March, engineering work will affect train services that run between Manchester and Sheffield.

“TransPennine Express will operate (in both directions) : Liverpool Lime Street to Manchester Oxford Road; Manchester Piccadilly to Sheffield (One train every 2 hours) and Doncaster to Cleethorpes (One train per hour).

“Rail replacement buses: Manchester Piccadilly to Sheffield (One every 2 hours, running the opposite hour to the train service); Stockport to Dore & Totley (Monday to Friday, peak time only) and Dore & Totley to Sheffield (Monday to Friday, morning peak time only).”
