Tragedy as person found dead at railway station

A person has tragically been found dead at a railway station in Cheshire. Emergency services were called out to Congleton railway station at around 6.55pm on Sunday evening (January 26).

Police and paramedics attended the scene, following reports of a casualty. Sadly, they were pronounced dead at the scene, British Transport Police has confirmed.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police added: "The incident is not being treated as suspicious, and a file will be prepared for the coroner." A coronial investigation is likely to follow.

Trains near Greater Manchester were stopped on Saturday evening while emergency services responded to the incident, with services affected between Stockport and Stoke-on-Trent. The incident affected Avanti West Coast services heading between Manchester Piccadilly and London Euston.
