Trafford Centre makes changes to opening times due to Queen's funeral on Monday

The Trafford Centre will close on the day of Her Majesty's state funeral, reopening again on the Monday at 4pm, bosses have announced.

The shopping and entertainment mall said it wanted to 'allow staff the time and space to mark the occasion and pay their respects'.

Normal opening hours will resume on Tuesday, September 20.

In a statement on the Trafford Centre's website, bosses said: "On Monday 19th September, the Trafford Centre will close in acknowledgment of Queen Elizabeth II's State Funeral and to allow staff the time and space to mark the occasion and pay their respects.

"The centre will re-open at 4pm, with a minimal number of brands."

Bosses, however, said many of the centre's individual stores will be closing for the entire day.

The statement added: "We would kindly advise you to check individual retailer websites and social channels for their opening hours, as majority of the centre's retailers are closing for the full day. Normal Trafford Centre opening hours will resume on Tuesday 20th September."

The Trafford Centre opens from 10am to 10pm, Monday to Friday, until 9pm on Saturdays and from noon to 6pm on Sundays.

On Monday - a Bank Holiday - the day of Her Majesty's funeral will begin in London with Big Ben chiming at 9am.

The Queen's funeral cortege will arrive at Westminster Abbey at 11am, with a minute's silence held as Her Majesty enters the abbey.

Queen Elizabeth will be buried at the King George VI Memorial Chapel at Windsor Castle, with tens of thousands of people expected to converge on the capital for the day.
