Traffic blocked eastbound on M62 due to vehicle fire - live updates

Traffic has been blocked on the M62 eastbound in Manchester due to a vehicle fire. All traffic has been brought to a halt as emergency services, including the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, deal with the blaze.

The incident has caused queueing traffic on M62 Eastbound, heading out of Manchester, between J21 A6193 Sir Isaac Newton Way (Milnrow) and J22 A672 (Rishworth Moor). Lanes one and two remain closed currently.

Pictures from the highway show huge queues backed up, causing delays. Emergency services rushed to the scene shortly after 3pm on Tuesday (April 12).

North West Motorway Police tweeted about the incident, with Highways North West adding: "M62 was blocked eastbound between J21 and J22 due to a vehicle fire. Manchester fire are on scene."

According to Inrix, the congestion is backed up to the Rochdale exit, at Junction 3 currently.

According to live traffic service Inrix, multiple lanes remain closed. All traffic was temporarily held earlier.

Lanes one and two (of four) are still closed currently, with motorists driving past the blaze.

There remains heavy congestion on the eastbound carriageway.
