BREAKING: Emergency services scrambled as street taped off - live updates

A residential street in Rochdale has been taped off this afternoon as police respond to an ongoing incident in the area. Multiple police vehicles descended on Gatesgarth Road in Middleton earlier today (Friday 29 April). The nature of the incident has not yet been confirmed.

Pictures from the scene show a large police cordon in place at the junction of the street - stretching most of the way down the road. A number of properties are inside the cordon.

Several police officers can be seen guarding the area, with a police car parked at each end of the cordon. Fire crews have also been spotted at the scene.

Local residents appear to have come outside their properties and appear to be gathering in the street. Greater Manchester Fire Service and Greater Manchester Police have been contacted for more information.
