Toyota ready to extend 2023 GTC points advantage as Aldo Scribante looms large

The fourth round of the 2023 Global Touring Cars (GTC) championship is upon us, with the action heading to the Aldo Scribante Race Circuit in Gqeberha.

Known for its challenging layout, the circuit is loved by drivers as it is often a proving ground for skills and ability. This weekend's race will mark the halfway point for the season, with three rounds remaining before the curtain is drawn on this year's title fight.

Toyota Gazoo Racing's Saood Variawa is currently ahead in the championship fight, sitting comfortably on 80 points. Variawa has taken the 2023 season by storm and could be on course to extend his championship advantage in his race-bred GR Corolla.

Variawa's teammates are on 65 and 48 points, respectively, occupying third and fourth in the championship. Privateer Toyota Corolla driver Robert Wolk is second in the title race, just nine points behind Variawa.

"We are thrilled to be heading into Round 4 of the championship," says Riaan Esterhuysen, Senior Manager for TGR at Toyota SA Motors.

"The Aldo Scribante Race Circuit poses a thrilling challenge for our drivers, and we are confident in their abilities to excel. Saood Variawa has been in fantastic form, but the competition is fierce. Robert Wolk, Nathi Msimanga, and Michael van Rooyen are all hungry for success and eager to climb up the championship standings. We are excited to witness their determination and the fierce battles on the track."
