Tourists now have to pay €28 to visit the remote national park where Jay Slater went missing

Tourists will now be charged to visit the remote national park in Tenerife where Jay Slater went missing. A €28 entry fee has been introduced at Rural Parc de Teno in the north west of the Spanish island, the local government has announced.

Jay, 19, was last seen leaving an Airbnb called Casa Abuela Tina, near the village of Masca in the park on June 17. In a phone call at around 8.30am he told pal Lucy Law he was lost and said he had just one per cent phone battery left.

Rural Parc de Teno's steep ravines and harsh mountainous terrain make it a haven for hikers and adventurers. But its rugged landscape and dense shrubbery are also what made the search for Jay, from Oswaldtwistle, Lancs, so difficult.

"Residents in Tenerife will NOT have to pay to access the Masca Ravine. A measure that goes hand in hand with the reopening of the pier and the improvement of the path to guarantee a safe experience for all visitors."

Emergency services spent 13 days searching the area before calling the operation off on June 30 - although police have
