Tottenham transfer reaches ‘advanced stage’ with three Prem sides beaten to the punch

Celtic are believed to be in the advanced stages of completing a permanent deal to land Tottenham defender Cameron Carter-Vickers.

Carter-Vickers is currently on loan with the Scottish outfit until the end of the season. The 24-year-old has impressed during his time in Glasgow and Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou is keen to keep hold of his new centre back. Now, it is believed a deal is close to being completed – despite a number of Premier League clubs also interested.

According to SBI Soccer, the Hoops are close to landing the 24-year-old on a permanent basis.

This comes despite reports that Wolves, Leicester and Watford had all expressed an interest in signing the American defender in the summer window.

Carter-Vickers has made 39 appearances across all competitions for Celtic this season. He has also helped them achieve a six point lead over Rangers in the league.

The centre-back is expected to cost Celtic £6m, potentially rising to £10m with add-ons.

Nevertheless, a permanent move for the England-born star may now be best at this point in his career.

Despite only breaking into the Tottenham first-team on a handful of occasions, Carter-Vickers has made 181 appearances throughout his career.

The defender has been loaned out to seven different clubs – Celtic, Bournemouth, Luton Town, Stoke City, Swansea, Ipswich Town and Sheffield United.

His biggest standout season has come this campaign, starring in five of Celtic’s six Europa League group stage fixtures.

A product of Spurs’ academy, Carter-Vickers made his debut in September 2016. The then 18-year-old featured as Spurs won 5-0 against Gillingham in the EFL Cup.
