"They've still got a chance..." - Transfer insider hints Celtic could pull off "massive coup"

Celtic could pull off ‘a massive coup’ by signing Tottenham Hotspur defender Cameron Carter-Vickers on a permanent basis, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The 24-year-old joined the Hoops on a season-long loan last summer in a deal that included a £10 million option-to-buy clause and has impressed throughout 2021/22.

Former Celtic striker turned pundit Chris Sutton recently questioned the PFA Scotland Player of the Year award shortlist after claiming the ‘best player in Scotland’ missed out.

Sutton was referring to Carter-Vickers in his tweet and previously labelled the USA international ‘immense’ following his convincing display in an Old Firm derby victory last month.

And the commanding centre-back has been a mainstay in the heart of Ange Postecoglou’s defence since his arrival, registering four goals and one assist in 43 appearances for Celtic.

Carter-Vickers has helped guide the Glasgow giants to a League Cup success and to within touching distance of their 10th Scottish Premiership crown in 11 years.

Yet it remains to be seen if the 6 foot ace will be turning out for Celtic next term, with the club’s hierarchy yet to activate their option-to-buy clause.

Several Premier League clubs have been linked with a move for Carter-Vickers in recent weeks, but Jones believes a ‘big enough incentive’ could convince him to remain in Scotland.

He told GiveMeSport: “It’d be a massive coup because the player obviously still believes he can play in the English Premier League.
