Tottenham suffer fresh injury setback ahead of Manchester United fixture

Tottenham Hotspur are sweating on the fitness of Ryan Sessegnon ahead of facing Manchester United.

Saturday's clash is vital to both sides' hopes of finishing the season in the final Champions League space, with Arsenal currently leading the way in fourth spot. While United were hammered by neighbours Manchester City 4-1 on Sunday, Spurs won a second league game in succession by a big margin as they stuck five past Everton without reply.

However, there was one drawback for Antonio Conte as he had to remove left wing-back Sessegnon at half-time when he picked up a muscle injury. The England Under-21 international had just begun to find his form under the new Spurs boss after suffering a number of injuries in recent years and Conte expressed his hope that it wasn't serious.

Tottenham will already be without Japhet Tanganga and Oliver Skipp for the trip to Old Trafford and Conte has revealed that further tests will be done on Sessegnon's injury on Tuesday to assess its severity. However, the Italian also praised the depth he has at his disposal on the flanks.

“Ryan Sessegnon, we have to make evaluation tomorrow [Tuesday],” Conte said. “I hope nothing serious as it is a muscular problem. I hope nothing serious because every time this player is having continuity of performance and then something wrong or a little injury. I hope it is nothing serious.

“I was happy for Sergio Reguilon because after Covid he came in and scored. He's another player who has a lot of space for improvement and my expectation is that he improves his level. [Matt] Doherty is another player who I'd like to underline the improvement and then also we have Emerson Royal.
