Tottenham suffer 'blow' over £54m 'top target' at Hotspur Way

Tottenham failing to sign Inter Milan centre-back Alessandro Bastoni is a huge “blow” to Antonio Conte‘s summer plans, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The Spurs manager has already signed Ivan Perisic and Fraser Forster, but now looks set to miss out on signing the Italy international.

According to The Athletic, Bastoni was identified as one of four left-sided centre-backs Spurs were keen on signing this summer.

The report states that Bastoni was top of Fabio Paratici’s list along with Josko Gvardiol, while Sven Botman and Nico Schlotterbeck were the other names mentioned.

However, following a meeting with Inter Milan and Tulio Tinti, Bastoni’s agent, it became clear that Bastoni is happy at his boyhood and will not be leaving the Serie A giants.

“Bastoni will stay at Inter for sure.” Tinti said. “He has a contract and he’s happy with Inter.”

As a result, Tottenham will have to turn their attention elsewhere if they want to bring in someone to compete with Ben Davies to become part of Conte’s back three alongside Eric Dier and Christian Romero.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “It’s a blow for Tottenham with Bastoni seemingly staying at Inter Milan, because he was a top target for Conte. They do want a left-sided centre-back and Torres would fit the bill as well as other names.”

Bastoni might have been Spurs’ number one target, but with just under three months remaining of the summer window, Conte and Paratici have time on their side to put things right.

However, of Paratici’s initial list of targets, Botman is on the verge of joining Newcastle, while Schlotterbeck has already signed for Borussia Dortmund.
